When not creating high quality digital images for my advertising clients, I recharge by giving myself assignments that often involve long distance hiking and camping.  You typically love what you know the best. The southern Appalachian Mountains are the genesis of my love of nature. In February I was introduced to a wilderness area that is about as different as the familiar rolling green carpet of the Appalachians as you can get.

Big Bend National Park

I certainly knew of the park, but until I finally relented to friend’s constant invitations to join him on one of his twice yearly – he’s been doing this since the 70’s – trips to BBNP.  Its awesome majesty was unbelievable and reputation well deserved.
My friend’s 30+ years of knowledge about the park was an invaluable asset to experiencing the most in the four days we camped there.
From the Marathon Hotel to the Chiso Basin and Casa Grande to Santa Elena Canyon to Dead Horse Mtns to Boquillas Canyon and the Hot Springs to Study Butte, La Kiva and Terlingua with its Starlight Theater and Liar’s Porch, I had an incredible introduction to a magnificent experience.

One of the many reasons I place myself outdoors, usually alone, is to walk quietly and listen to the earth breathe.

I have another place to love.
Here are a few of the images from my walkabout.
